A Little About Me
Hi! I’m Carly. Actually, my full name is Charlotte, but I really only get called that when I’m in trouble (still) and I used it in college, but for now - I’m back to being Carly.
For those of you who don’t know me, and even those who do, I’m going to try and convey all important aspects of myself in one brief post. Seem impossible? Oh well, here we go!
Let’s start with the easy stuff - As a kid, I wanted to be a ballerina, an author, a film director, and an Egyptologist. I’m still fascinated by all of these areas of study, but I haven’t ventured too far into any of them.
Fun fact, my middle name is Grace. Partly for my grandma, Grace. Partly because klutziness runs in my family and my mom thought I would need something to counterbalance that. And partly because I was born on Tuesday and, as they say, Tuesday’s child is full of grace (bonus fun fact: it is theorized that is also one of the reasons Grace Kelly was named Grace - and she’s one of my favorite people).
I adore tea. I have countless mugs that I love to mix and match with my favorite types of tea. I tend to default to various chai and earl grey blends. I definitely prefer black tea to green, but occasionally I venture over the divide.
I’m definitely a cat person. As I child I loved animals, but I grew up without pets (beyond a few fish) and I think that led me to just blocking out pets from my life. That is - until we got cats! Now I love them! I haven’t gotten too stuck watching hours of cute cat videos on YouTube, but I’ve definitely spent some time with the cats of Pinterest.
Reading has probably always been my favorite pastime, but you have the rest of the blog to find out about that.
For those of you interested in personality typing, I am an ISFJ, Upholder, and Enneagram type 1 (wing 2). Name another personality test - chances are, I’ve taken it. If I haven’t, I probably will as soon as you tell me about it!
I moved out last year and now live in a super cute apartment with my best friend. It is pretty much everything I’ve ever imagined! We spend our evenings and weekends baking, drinking tea, reading, binge-watching our favorite TV shows, and hosting parties for our friends.
Several people have asked me what quote I live by. For now, I think this quote from F. Scott Fitzgerald (one of my favorite authors) as my manifesto: “For what it’s worth... it’s never too late, or in my case too early, to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit. Start whenever you want. You can change or stay the same. There are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you’ve never felt before. I hope you meet people who have a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start over again.” I love the idea of building my life and making it something I love. It motivates me to move, go, and work hard, but also to appreciate the moments as they pass by.
I graduated from Liberty University Online in the summer of 2018 with my degree in business communications and a minor in family advocacy and public policy. While working on my degree, and in the months since, I have worked as a paralegal at my dad’s law office. I don’t plan to stay here forever, but I enjoy working with both of my parents (my mom recently started working here too!) and helping my dad build his brand and company.
On the side, I have recently started a professional organizing business, Masterpeace Organizing (masterpeaceorganizing.com and @masterpeaceorganizing). About a year ago I discovered organizing was something I could pursue as a career (thank you - Instagram!) and I have been obsessed ever since. I’m already thinking two (or five) career moves ahead of just my organizing business, but that is where I am right now - and I couldn't be happier about it.
Some of my favorite advice regarding careers relates to the idea that you should only do something if you can’t imagine not doing it. I truly believe that is what is what has drawn me to be an entrepreneur. I had a couple of career options, but I knew that I wanted to go out on my own and start something new - hence my organizing business (and the dozen other ideas on the back burner). I’m pretty obsessed with building my personal brand. And voila - this is part of that!
That's me! I hope you learned something about me that you didn't know before. I'd love to get to know you too - send me an email or connect with me on social media.
Until next time,
Carly
